Enjoy a wonderful afternoon of outstanding American music from the early and mid 20th century. Includes music by George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim and Lerner & Lowe. The approx. 35 person Symphony by the Sea professional orchestra will be accompanied by a guest vocalist and saxophonist. A highlight will be Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." This iconic synthesis of jazz and classical music was partly composed on a train trip to Boston, and first performed in NYC on Feb. 12, 1924. Also from Gershwin is a planned medley from his opera, Porgy & Bess.
